algas infinitas,
cochayuyo

An installation that urges you to sympathize with the burdens of Algueros (cochayuyo farmers) and what they go through to harvest the algas(cochayuyo). The audience take a cochayuyo stick from the vase to cook with it, share and relish it for you don't know if you will be able to next year. The larger than life installation is a comment that connects the locals with the actual form of the seaweed when its is harvested in contrast to what one finds at the market.

Are you at peace hearing the Cochayuyo gasp its last breaths?

Tightly bound the algae breathes probably for the last time. The long standing symbol of Chilean culture and history is being strangled by endless weaves of complex struggles faced by the Algueros. If their displacement was not enough, this forest of sea is soon to be traded for luxurious views. It is time to take a stand and change the fate of Cochayuyo.

Don’t remember it from the difficult days you faced and ate it behind closed doors but celebrate it for the strength it gives to you. It is a superfood and you only need to bow to it’s

grandeur and rediscover it. Share what it has to offer by bringing it back on the Chilean table.
